Charles Hubert Weatherspoon

Charles Hubert Weatherspoon, 71, of Vass, passed away on Friday, Sept. 21, 2012, at his daughter’s home in West End.
He was born at home on Oct. 28, 1940, in Southern Pines, to the late Josiah Hubert Weatherspoon and Pauline Adcox Weatherspoon. He graduated from Southern Pines High School class of 1958 and then attended college at Pasadena College, Pasadena, Calif. He was employed by The Pilot newspaper where he worked in many capacities for more than 40 years and had to leave his place of employment in 2002 for medical reasons.
He was a lifetime member of the Southern Pines Elks Lodge No. 1692. He was a member of Southern Pines Baptist Church. Charles was a former volunteer firefighter for Southern Pines Volunteer Fire Department. He loved his ’50s Doo Wop-era music as well as beach music. He enjoyed shag dancing.
Charles also loved class reunions and family reunions as well as spending time socializing with his friends at Doug’s Auto Center in Southern Pines. He enjoyed many trips to Las Vegas with his family and friends. Charles was an avid ACC basketball fan and was especially a Wolfpack fan. He loved taking his family pets on nature walks.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Mary Ann Weatherspoon, of Vass; his twin children, Michael Patrick Weatherspoon, of Southern Pines, and Cristine Ann Weatherspoon, of West End; a brother, James D. Weatherspoon and wife, Shirley, of Southern Pines; and a sister, Nancy A. McInnis, of Aberdeen; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Wilson.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012, at 3 p.m. at Christ Fellowship Church in Southern Pines with the Rev. Jim Thyne officiating.
The family will receive friends Monday, Sept. 24, 2012, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Boles Funeral Home in Southern Pines.
