DELANEY

Douglas Arthur Delaney, 43, born in Hartford, Conn., on Sept. 2, 1969, died Monday, Oct. 15, 2012, at his home in Southern Pines.
He is survived by his mother, Barbara Starr Delaney; his grandmother, Dorothy Bates; his sister, Catherine Delaney Parkin, her husband Jim, nephew Jay Parkin, nieces Lindsay and Bethany Parkin; and his longtime companion, LeeAnn Matthews and her son, Brian Talbert. He was preceded in death by his father, William Delaney.
Doug was a 1988 graduate of Pinecrest High School, and he also received a degree in cosmetology. He was a very talented drummer who played music with several local bands. He enjoyed working on and restoring cars, and tinkering with all of his mechanical “toys.”
An informal memorial service for friends and family to share special memories will take place on Sunday Oct. 21, at 1 p.m. in Bethesda Cemetery. A gathering to celebrate Doug’s life will follow at 45 Glen Meadow Court, Pinehurst.
