Robert C. Monroe Sr.
Robert Cecil Monroe Sr., 89, of Aberdeen, passed away Sunday, Oct. 7, 2012, at Manor Care, in Pinehurst.
The family received relatives and friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 8, at Crumpler Funeral Home, Aberdeen. Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, at Bethesda Presbyterian Church Cemetery, with Pastor Darrell Garner officiating.
Mr. Monroe was born Oct. 26, 1922, in Moore County, to the late Laughlin B. Monroe II and Mary L. Myrick Monroe. He was a member of Bethesda Presbyterian Church and the local VFW. Mr. Monroe served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and was a carpenter and painter. He later was employed and retired from W.C. Richards Paint Company in the Aberdeen branch.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Elizabeth (Lib) Diggs Monroe. He is survived by his wife, Joyce W. Monroe, of Aberdeen; two sons, Robert C. (Robbie) Monroe Jr. and his wife, Jewell, of Jackson Springs, and Rickie Monroe and his wife, Debbie, of Aberdeen; two grandchildren, Brian Heath Monroe and his wife, Paige, of Aberdeen, and William Brett Monroe and his wife, Rebekah, of Norman; one great-granddaughter, Emma Iris Monroe, of Norman; one stepdaughter, Paula F. Williams and her husband, Ray, of Pinebluff; one step-grandson, Ed Williams and his wife, Lynn, of Pinebluff; and one step-great-grandson, Colt Williams, of Pinebluff.
