James Arthur Hartig, 71, died Monday, Oct. 8, 2012, peacefully at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12, at Yates-Thagard Baptist Church, with Pastor Steven Johnson officiating. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, at Boles Funeral Home, in Southern Pines.
He was born Sept. 20, 1941, to Raymond and Violet Emma Dougherty Hartig, in Tacoma Park, Md.
He was preceded in death by his father.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Beatrice “Bobbie” Hartig; mother, Violet Downie and husband, Alexander, of Melbourne, Fla.; daughter Angela Allen, of Indialantic, Fla.; son Douglas R. Hartig and wife, Debra, of Hughesville, Md.; granddaughters Ashley Allen, Isabel Hartig and Alexa Hartig; sister Joyce Newland, of Richardson, Texas; nephew Bill Newland, of Richardson, Texas; and many other extended family members and friends.
Jim was a graduate of Shenandoah Valley Academy in Virginia and had an associate degree in accounting from Benjamin Franklin University. He owned and operated Arco Auto Sales in Beltsville, Md., prior to his retirement.
He and his wife, Bobbie, moved to Southern Pines in 2000. He was an active member of Yates-Thagard Baptist Church, in Carthage. He strongly loved his church and family.
Jim was a part-time ranger at Legacy Golf Course. He was a driver for Bill Smith Ford. Jim was an avid golfer, loved sports and although he moved to North Carolina in 2000, he continued to be a passionate fan of the teams from Maryland and Washington, D.C.
