Floyd Gilmer Marion, 83, of Carthage, passed away Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012, at FirstHealth Hospice House, in Pinehurst, with his family by his side.
The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2, at Fry and Prickett Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, at Culdee Presbyterian Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Joseph Washburn officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends immediately following the funeral service in the church fellowship hall.
Gilmer was born Oct. 27, 1928, in Surry County, the son of the late Floyd Dock and Geneva Shelton Marion. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda Marion Powers.
He is survived by his wife of 59½ years, Gussie Monroe Marion; sons, Johnie Ellis Marion and wife, Connie, Ronnie Michael Marion and wife, Cathy; and Gary Kent Marion; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, all of Carthage; brothers, Gaither Marion and wife, Peggy, of High Point, Cardell Marion and wife, Mabel, of Trinity, and Rex Marion and wife, Jean, of Lexington; and sisters, Rachael Carter and husband, George, of Staley, and Polly Whitaker, of Sanford.
