Larry A. Edmonds
Larry “Bud” Atkins Edmonds, 70, of Broadway, died Saturday, Nov. 18, 2012, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital.
A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20, at Carthage First Presbyterian Church, conducted by the Rev. Rick Martindale. Military honors were presented in the church during the service. The family received friends after the service in the Family Life Center. The family also received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 19, at Fry and Prickett Funeral Home, in Carthage.
He was a son of the late Jonah and Cleo Atkins Edmonds, of Pinehurst. A 1960 graduate of Pinehurst High School, he joined the U.S. Army in June 1960. He was honorably discharged and transferred to the Army Reserve in June 1963.
Coming back to North Carolina, he worked for 22 years at Twin-City Laundry, and then worked for 20 years as a tool salesman at Lowe’s Home Improvement in Sanford until his retirement in 2009.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Ellis Edmonds. He is survived by two sons, Lawrence “Lee” Edmonds and wife, Denise, of Carthage, and Donald Eddie Edmonds and wife, Vickie, of Cameron; three grandchildren, Justin Edmonds, of Carthage, Ryan Edmonds, of Cameron, and April Renee Hockaday and husband, Brent, of Broadway; great-grandson, Grant Hockaday, of Broadway; three stepchildren, Sandy Hyatt and Charlie Ellis, of Maryville, Tenn., and Tommy Ellis, of Gaffney, S.C.; three sisters, Joyce Childress, of Durham, Glenda Williams, of Southern Pines, and Betsy Baugess of Burlington; and a brother, Donald Edmonds, of Mount Airy.
