Helen R. Cole
Helen Ruth Cole, 92, died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, in Pinehurst.
A graveside memorial service was conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, at Doubs Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Homer Phifer and the Rev. Bill Clark officiating.
She was born Jan. 1, 1920, in Pinehurst. She served as a secretary in the Air Force in World War II and received her master’s degree in early childhood education. She worked as a church educator and later as an early childhood specialist with the Moore County Department of Social Services. She was active in the Temperance Smith Alston chapter of the DAR and held offices at both the district and state levels.
She is survived by two nieces, Patricia Biggers Schaaf and husband, Dr. William Schaaf, of Gloucester, and Diane Cole Chapin and husband, Dr. Robert Chapin, of Prescott, Conn.; and several great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hulon and Helen Cole; two brothers; and one sister
