Donna Maves

Donna Maves

Donna Maves died Thursday, May 24, 2012, in Raleigh. She was born in 1929 to a young dancer, but had the great good fortune of being raised by the same foster family throughout her life. The family still considers the Soellner/Radostas their closest relatives.
Donna grew up in Chicago and married William Maves in 1950. The family moved to Cleveland, Ohio, in 1968. Donna spent 40 years in banking, but always had a great love of the arts. She was a serious voice student and sang with the Apollo Chorus for civic events and for most of the Lutheran weddings in Lyons, Ill.
After retiring to Pinehurst in 1990, Donna and Bill had a wonderful period of active retirement. Donna enjoyed being a member of The Sophisticated Ladies, the Pinehurst line dancing troupe composed of women over 65.
She is predeceased by her husband, William (May 28, 2011); son, Robert (2001); and son, John (1998).
She is survived by her daughter, Janine Maves and son-in-law, Philip Barner, of Raleigh; five grandchildren, Jessica Till, Brunswick, Ohio, Kathryn Price, Brooklyn, Ohio, Marika Barner, Durham, Kirsten Barner, Charlotte, and David Maves, Lakewood, Ohio; and great-grandchildren, Brianna, Sarah, Cecelia, Rosie and Lucy Till, and Josh and Jude Price.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to Hospice of Wake County, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607.
