Ruth C. Straka

Ruth Carol Straka, 82, of Woodlake Country Club, died Sunday, May 20, 2012, at her home.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., on Saturday, May 26th at Community Congregational Church. The family will be receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 25, at Powell Funeral Home, in Southern Pines.
Born Aug, 3, 1929, in Cumberland County, she was a daughter of the late Lauchlin David and Mary Christian Guin, and wife of the late James Robert Straka. Ruth was a graduate of Southern Pines High School, where she was a cheerleader and basketball player; was a director of mental health for four counties in the state of North Carolina, a member of Community Congregational Church, an avid golfer, and enjoyed playing bridge with her special team of Jeaninne, Susie and Ronnie.
She is survived by a son, Michael R. Straka and wife, Sharon, of Fort Worth, Texas; a sister, Barbara Motsinger and husband, Fuller, of Southern Pines; a brother, Philip Guin, of Pompano Beach, Fla.; a brother-in-law, George R. Straka III, of High Point; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Cochrane, of Pompton Lakes, N.J.; three grandchildren, Christy Straka, of Wilmington, Kerry Jones and husband, Rob, of Leland, and Christopher Collins and wife, Kelly, of Claudville, Va.; three great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Lydia Jones, and Ashton Collins; one niece, Layne Straka; and three nephews, George R. Straka IV, and David and Stuart Motsinger.
