Bruce Campbell Walling, retired chief master sgt., U.S. Air National Guard, 80, of Pinehurst, died Monday, May 14, 2012, at his home.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 30, at Pinehurst United Methodist Church, with the Rev. David Banks officiating. A reception will follow the service at Pinewild Country Club. Interment will be held privately by the family, at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery, in Spring Lake, with full military honors.
He was born June 9, 1931, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to the late Wells William Walling and Victoria Campbell Walling. He was a veteran of his country and retired from the U.S. Air National Guard after 26 years of service to his country. He was activated for federal service in October 1961 for Berlin crisis, and served for nearly one year in Mannheim, Germany.
After retirement from General Accident Insurance, he spent much of 1990 and part of 1991, until retirement, on active duty serving in Italy, the Bahamas, and during Desert Shield and Desert Storm at the Air National Guard Headquarters and Readiness Center, Andrews Air Force Base, Md. He was a member of Pinehurst United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Jane Bustard Walling, of Pinehurst; a daughter, Denise Elise Farrington, of Moseley, Va.; one granddaughter, Kristin DiPietro, of New Jersey; and two great-grandchildren, Joseph David DiPietro and Julianna Campbell DiPietro.
