Melba Wilson
Melba Wilson, 91, of Pinehurst, and Belle Meade Retirement Village the last three years, died Sunday, May 6, 2012.
A funeral service will be held at at 11 a.m. Friday, May 11, at Community Presbyterian Church, in Pinehurst, with interment to follow at Mount Hope Cemetery, in Southern Pines.
Mrs. Wilson was born in Pinehurst. At the time of her death, she was the longest living member of the Community Presbyterian Church, where her father was a founding member.
Mrs. Wilson worked at Pinehurst, Inc. for many years and retired as branch manager at NCNB. She was also active in the Pinehurst Country Club and as a volunteer with the Literacy Council and the FirstHealth Toy Makers until she moved to Belle Meade Retirement Village. She loved tennis and the beach. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were very precious to her, and she loved animals.
Mrs. Wilson was preceded in death by her parents; brother and sister; and husband, William J. Wilson. She is survived by her son, Bradley Johnson and wife, Pat, of Southern Pines; daughter, Cynthia Oleksa and husband, Jim, of Wake Forest; her three stepchildren Bill Wilson Jr., of Pinehurst, Kathy Baumgartner and husband, Dick, of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., and Anne Heath and husband, Tom, of Boca Raton, Fla.; three grandchildren, Kelly Merritt, Travis Johnson and Ben Heath; and three great-grandchildren, Siera Johnson, Savannah Johnson and Mattie Merritt.
