Thomas William Jones
Thomas William Jones, 84, of Pinehurst, passed Thursday, March 29, 2012, at his residence in Pinewild Country Club.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, April 1, at Our Saviour Lutheran Church, in Southern Pines, with Pastor John Propst officiating .
Mr. Jones was born Nov. 2, 1927, in Lehighton, Pa., to the late Lewis Edgar Jones and Anna (Steigerwalt) Jones. He attended Temple University and Drexel Institute of Technology for civil engineering. He served his country at the end of World War II in the U.S. Army. He later went on to work for Turner Construction Company for more than 36 years traveling all over the world, living abroad in Saudi Arabia, Greece and Singapore, later retiring to the Colorado area.
Mr. Jones enjoyed fishing, hunting and playing golf. He and Julia, his wife, moved to Pinewild Country Club in 2004 to enjoy the leisure activities the Pinewild community had to offer. Thomas was a loving, caring man with a good spirit and great sense of humor.
Mr. Jones is survived by his wife of 61 years, Julia M. Jones; a son, Thomas W. Jones Jr., of California; a daughter, Barbara A. Jones, of North Carolina; a son, Terry Jones and wife, Dana of North Carolina; a sister, Louise Shermerhorn and husband, Dick, of Pennsylvania; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Jones was preceded in death by two sisters, Jeanne Furman and Margie Rehrig.
