Charlie A. Pendergrass
Charlie A. Pendergrass, 86, of Raeford, died Sunday, March 25, 2012, at his home.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 27, at Shiloh Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Steve Hannah and the Rev. Ladd Brealey officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Visitation was held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 26, at Crumpler Funeral Home, in Raeford.
Mr. Pendergrass was born Aug. 24, 1925, in Hoke County, to the late John Marshall and Maude Mae Pratt Pendergrass. He was a member of Shiloh Presbyterian Church, where he served as elder and deacon. He was also a member of the West Hoke Volunteer Fire Department.
Mr. Pendergrass served on the Production Credit board for 22 years, Lumbee Electric board for nine years, was director for the Hoke County Farm Bureau for more than five years, and was on several committees with the Agriculture Department. He was a dedicated farmer in Hoke County before he retired. His hobbies were flying his family in his airplane, family outings and quail hunting.
Survivors are his wife of 67 years, Lucille Nixon Pendergrass, of Raeford; three daughters, Janice P. Creekmore and her husband, Grafton, of Raeford, Dianne P. McCallum and her husband, Edward, of Statesboro, Ga., and Wanda P. Nobles and her husband, Garland, of Wagram; seven grandchildren, Kim Kitchens and her husband, David, Andy Bullock and his wife, Chrissie, Kristyn Beck and her husband, Heath, Dana Pepe and her husband, Frank, Trad Walters and his wife, Nonie, Waylon Nobles and Natalie Nobles; seven great-grandchildren, Chasity Bullock, Mellie Kitchens, Lauryn Beck, Samuel Beck, Nadia Walters, Zara Walters and Frank Pepe Jr.
