Doris Ferguson Blue, 83, of Greensboro, passed away Monday, March 19, 2012, at Whitestone Retirement Community.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 25, at First Presbyterian Church Sanctuary. The family will receive friends following the service in the Virginia Gilmer Room.
Doris Blue was born April 12, 1928, in Southern Pines. She graduated valedictorian from Southern Pines High School and received a degree from Harbingers Business School. Doris moved to Greensboro in 1959 and was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where she served as an usher, deacon, and taught a Sunday school class.
Doris worked most of her life as the office manager for her husband’s architectural office but also worked for The Pilot newspaper in Southern Pines, State Capital Life Insurance Company, and the NC State University chemistry department. She also helped form the Greensboro Chapter of Women in Construction and served as president and secretary for the organization.
She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Walter E. Blue Jr.; children David Blue and wife, Janet, Lisa Boggs and husband, Rob, and Philip Blue and wife, Lorraine; sister Johnsie Bauer; and grandchildren Liana Blue, Adam Blue, Trey Boggs, Ashley Boggs, Kristin Boggs and Olivia Blue. She was preceded in death by her sister Kay Black.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro, 2500 Summit Ave., Greensboro NC 27405.
Family is being served by Forbis and Dick N. Elm Chapel.
