J. Caesar Phillips
J. Caesar Phillips, 99, of High Falls, passed away on Saturday, March 17, 2012, at his home surrounded by his daughter, son and special caregiver.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 20, 2012, at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church with the Rev. James Stalnaker and the Rev. Clarence Garner officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Caesar was born March 22, 1912, in the Prosperity area of Moore County, to the late Brad and Flossie Phillips. He was raised in Bennett. He was a graduate of Appalachian State Teachers College and UNC-Greensboro. He had a 42-year career as an educator in Chatham, Randolph and Moore counties, including 29 years as principal of Westmoore School. He was a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church and taught the men’s Sunday School class for 47 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith; a brother, Henry Clay Phillips; and sisters, Marguerite Jones, Clara Mae Cain and Ovilia Lytle.
Surviving are his daughter, Gloria, of the home; and a son, Julius and wife, Linda, of Chapel Hill; sisters, India Craven, of Ramseur, Elizabeth Poole, of Asheboro, and Allena Phillips, of Siler City.
The family would like to thank his caregiver, Jennifer Hussey, and FirstHealth Hospice for the care they provided their father.
Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 19, 2012, at Kennedy Funeral Home in Robbins.
