Norman S. Eppell, 92, of Pinehurst, died Tuesday, March 13, 2012, in Pinehurst.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, March 16, at Boles Funeral Home, in Pinehurst. The family will receive friends after the service. Inurnment will be at Pinelawn Memorial Park, in Southern Pines.
Born July 11, 1919, in Syracuse, N.Y., Mr. Eppell was a 1942 graduate of the New York State College of Forestry at Syracuse University. He was a World War II United States Army veteran. After the war, he began a 33-year federal civil service career with the Department of the Army and retired from Armament Research & Development in New Jersey in 1979.
Mr. Eppell moved to Pinehurst in 1988. He was a member of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association and served as membership chair and newsletter editor of the Sandhills chapter. He traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and the world.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Iona.
