Charles B. Scoggin III

Charles Blackwell “Chuck” Scoggin III, 64, formerly of Lumberton, died Wednesday, March 14, 2012, at his home in Pinehurst.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, March 16, at The Village Chapel, in Pinehurst, with Dr. Glenn Miller officiating.
Mr. Scoggin and his father for many years owned and operated Scoggin & Company CPAs in Lumberton. Ten years ago he moved his accounting practice to Pinehurst.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Vietnam War. Chuck was a member of the Pinehurst Country Club and the St. Albans Masonic Lodge in Lumberton, and was the past exalted ruler of the Lumberton Elks Lodge. He was also an avid low handicap golfer and won many amateur tournaments.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles B. Scoggin Jr. and Mildred Wilkins Scoggin; and a brother, Robert Scoggin.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Carter Scoggin; his stepchildren, Carter John Fitchett, of Pinehurst, and Aubrey Fitchett Lindner and husband, David, of Grayson, Ga.; a step-grandson, Carter McCallister Fitchett, of Pinehurst; an uncle, William Nichols Jr., of Reidsville; cousins, Jean Fetter Catlitt, Nancy Blackwell Price and Anthony Armistead Nichols, all of Reidsville, and William Nichols III, of Atlanta.
