Joanna P. Hale
Joanna Petty Hale, 85, passed away Sunday, March 11, 2012, at Pinehurst Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, in Pinehurst.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 16, at The Village Chapel, in Pinehurst. Family will receive friends following the service. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery, at a later date.
Mrs. Hale was born June 19, 1926, to the late Ida Korn and Wilbur Edson Petty, in Brooklyn, N.Y. She graduated from Adelphi University in New York, received her master’s from City College of New York. She was a child psychologist, teacher and real estate broker. She married Lt. Alfred Bradford Hale in 1951 in Long Island.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Gen. Alfred B. Hale; sons Jonathan Hale and wife, Camille, of Winston-Salem, and Alfred Hale Jr. and wife, Nora, of Charlotte; daughter Paula Hale Stevens and husband, Ward, of Blacksburg, Va.; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
