Harvey L. Williams Jr.

Harvey L. Williams, Jr. 88, of Aberdeen, died peacefully Wednesday, Feb. 29, 2012, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, in Pinehurst, with his family by his side.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 4, at Page Memorial United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Jane Leechford officiating. Burial will follow at Bethesda Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
He was the son of the late Harvey L. Williams Sr. and Georgia Williams, of Biscoe. He served his country in the Army during World War II in Carlisle Barracks, Pa. There he met his wife, Mary, through mutual friends, and the two relocated to Aberdeen in the early 1950s to raise their family. He actively served in his church and was a member for many years of the Aberdeen Lions Club. He was an avid sports fan and loved watching his Carolina basketball and the Atlanta Braves.
He loved his family, his church and his friends. He was a loving father and his complete devotion to his wife, Mary, of 65 years, during her illness was truly inspiring.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Williams, of Aberdeen; his children, Timothy Williams and wife, Nancy, of Durham; Terry Williams and wife, Theresa, of Sanford, and daughter Marie Williams of Aberdeen; four grandchildren, Kayce Williams, of Pinebluff, Angela Williams, of Sanford, Audrey Williams, of Greensboro, and Megan Williams, of Wilmington; one great-granddaughter, Savannah Williams; his sister, Beryl Campbell, of Sanford; his brother, David Williams and wife, Jane, of Thomasville; and seven nieces and nephews.
