Lucille A. Humphrey, 91, of Southern Pines, passed away peacefully Thursday, June 28, 2012, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.
A Mass of Resurrection was held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 30, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, in Southern Pines, with Msgr. Jeffrey Ingham as celebrant. Burial followed in St. Anthony Cemetery.
She was born Jan. 21, 1921, in Cincinnati, to the late Charles and Lucy Singer. She was a star athlete on her high school basketball team. Lucille played the violin and was an avid golfer. She was past president and member of Par Seekers, which is affiliated with Elks Club. She also was a member of the Catholic Guild and had been an avid sports fan to the end. She was married to her loving husband, Fred J. Humphrey, for 64 years before his passing on Jan. 10, 2006.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by one brother and five sisters. She is survived by her two sons, Fred J. Humphrey and his wife, Laurelle, and their children, Keith and Drew, of Stamford, Conn.; and Jim Humphrey and his wife, Holly, and their child, Matt, of Pittsburgh; one daughter, Patricia G. Humphrey, of Southern Pines; and by two great-grandchildren.
