Kenneth M. Hugg

Kenneth M. Hugg, 96, of Pinehurst, died Wednesday, June 27, 2012, at his home.
A memorial service will be held at at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, July 8, at Our Saviour Lutheran Church in Southern Pines, where he was a member, with the Rev. Terry Dorsey officiating. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the service.
The rite of committal will be held in Pinelawn Memorial Park in Southern Pines, where Ken will be laid to rest with his beloved wife of 63½ years as they continue their journey together in eternity.
Ken was born Aug. 2, 1915, in Burlington, Iowa, the youngest of three sons of Fred L. and Hattie C. (Schmidt) Hugg. He was raised in Estherville, Iowa, where he graduated from high school. He was awarded a bachelor of science and master’s degree from the University of Iowa, where he was a member of Phi Kappa Sigma Fraternity, the Varsity Club for major letter winners, and the Iowa Alumni Association.
He was married to Eleanor E. Fox on June 19, 1943, in Forest Hills, N.Y. They lived for 57 years in suburban Chicago, relocating to Pinehurst from Barrington, Ill., in April 2002. Eleanor passed away Jan. 12, 2007.
Ken spent his working career in the labor relations field for several major U.S. companies, including the last 33 years with Bell and Howell in Lincolnwood, Ill.
He is survived by two daughters, Janet L. Landis, of Pinehurst, and Carolyn A. James (the late Emanuel), of West End; one son, David R. Hugg, of Wauconda, Ill., and former daughter-in-law, Linda L. Hugg, of Zion, Ill; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Ken is also survived by a number of nephews, nieces and in-laws.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and two brothers, Harry and Roger.
