Evangeline Deborah Anderson Jackson

Evangeline Deborah Anderson Jackson, 94, formerly of Whispering Pines, passed Wednesday, June 20, 2012, at Manor Care Nursing Facility, in Pinehurst.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 27, at Boles Funeral Home, Southern Pines, with the Rev. John Jacobs officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the Hillside Cemetery in Monson, Maine, beside her husband, Clifton.
Mrs. Jackson was born Aug. 20, 1917, in Monson, Maine, to Charles Frederick Anderson and Eda S. (Johnson) Anderson. She was a graduate of Monson Academy as valedictorian and a graduate of University of Maine, Orono, with a B.A. degree. She continued her education at Boston University School of Social Work. She was a member of the College Club and A.A.U.W. Her Sorority was Pi Beta Phi.
Mrs. Jackson worked as a social worker for six years with the department of health and welfare in Maine and 27 years with the Bergen County (New Jersey) Department of Social Services.
In 1985 Evangeline and her husband, Clifton, moved to the Sandhills of North Carolina and became avid golfers. They summered in Maine and Vermont and attended The Village Chapel in Pinehurst for many years, where she served two years as program chairman for Women of the Chapel and was on the Missions Committee.
Mrs. Jackson was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Clifton Walter Jackson, who died on Dec. 29, 2005.
She is survived by a niece, Sylvia Petterson Cousins, M.D., of Boca Raton, Fla.
