Anne Alphin Hobson

Anne Alphin Hobson, formerly of Dunn, died peacefully Friday, June 22, 2012, in Pinehurst.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 27, at Long Branch PFWB Church in Dunn. Following the service, friends are invited to visit with the family in the church fellowship hall.
The family received visitors at 11 a.m. Monday, June 25, at the home, in Pinehurst; and from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 26, at Skinner & Smith Funeral Home, in Dunn.
Anne was the oldest child of Jesse and Allene Alphin, of Dunn. She was the wife of David Hobson, of Pinehurst, and the mother of Shannon Godwin Bowen and husband, Jeff, of Ashburn, Va., and Kenan Godwin and wife, Julia, of Hope Mills.
Survivors also include her sister, Kay Johnson and husband, Marvin; brothers Clifton and Ernest and wife, Teresa, all of Dunn; and five grandchildren.
Anne graduated as valedictorian of the class of 1961 of Dunn High School and graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill with a degree in nursing. In recent years she served as educator, mentor and loving supporter to breast cancer patients in the Reach To Recovery program in Pinehurst, and she actively supported the FirstHealth Foundation Cancer Care Fund.
Anne achieved many goals in life and excelled in all that she did. Her greatest accomplishment was the love and joy she brought to David, Shannon, Kenan, her parents and siblings, and her large circle of family and friends.
Her compassionate spirit was a gift from God. That spirit flowed to all who knew her. She was a treasure and a bright ray of sunshine. Her strength during her illness was a great inspiration.
