Edward J. Kratovil

Edward Joseph Kratovil, 85, of Southern Pines, passed Monday, June 4, 2012, at his residence in Penick Village.
A memorial service will be held a 1 p.m. Saturday June 9, at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, in Southern Pines, with the Rev. John Tampa officiating. He will be laid to rest in the church memorial gardens.
Mr. Kratovil was born June 25, 1926, in Stark County, Ind., to the late Joseph and Marie (Rubey) Kratovil. He was a proud graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He served at the end of World War II in the U.S. Army. He loved his wife, his church, gardening, and his Chicago White Sox.
Mr. Kratovil is survived by his wife of 54 years, Suzanne (Reich) Kratovil; two nieces, Mary Gibson and husband, George, of Carbondale, Ill., and Kathy Forsythe and husband, David, of Lacey, Wash.; and two nephews, Jim Hanna and wife, Linda, of Arden, and Charles Hanna and wife, Sue, of West Dundee, Ill. Mr. Kratovil was preceded in death by three sisters, Helen Hanna, Elsie K. Geske and Margaret Attfield; and a nephew, Alfred Attfield.
