Dorothy F. Buxton

BUXTON

Dorothy “Dottie” Frost Buxton passed away Sunday, June 3, 2012, at Penick Village.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 7, at Brownson Memorial Presbyterian Church, with Dr. Grady Perryman officiating. The family will receive friends at 3 p.m. at a reception at Penick Village.
Dottie was born Jan. 6, 1920, in Willard, N.Y., and grew up and attended school in Elmira Heights, N.Y.
Dorothy resided in Elmira, N.Y., for many years, where she was a champion golfer, a certified Red Cross life-saving instructor, a synchronized swimming instructor, and an active volunteer for many charitable and civic organizations.
Dottie and her husband, Bucky, retired in Southern Pines to enjoy the wonderful climate, community and their passion for golf. They were members of the Southern Pines Country Club, and Dottie was a member of the Par Seekers. Following her husband’s passing, she became a resident of Penick Village in Southern Pines. There she became known as “Grandma Dottie,” became the unofficial Penick resident photographer, and was loved for her engaging, sunny disposition and always had a joke to share.
She was a member of Brownson Memorial Presbyterian Church, where she belonged to the Woman’s Circle. She was also an active member of the local Alzheimer’s Support Group, the Art Club of Moore County, and a member of the Moore County Republican Women’s Club.
She is survived by a sister, Madeline Frost Mikoda, of West Windsor, N.Y.; two daughters, Sue Frost Grigsby, of Windsor, Conn., and Jan Buxton Seawell, of Midland; one son, James Philip Buxton, of St. Petersburg, Fla.; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and nine nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband of more than 47 years, James Eberley (Bucky) Buxton; parents, Ursula and Walter Frost; and brothers Walter and Leslie Frost.
