VALENTINE

O. John Valentine, 85, passed away Saturday, Feb. 25, 2012, in Southern Pines, following a long illness.
A memorial service is planned for 4 p.m. Saturday, March 3, at at Pinelawn Memorial Park, in Southern Pines.
Mr. Valentine was a longtime member of the Sandhills community and a veteran of World War II. Originally from Pittsburgh, he was a custom homebuilder and developer who relocated to the Sandhills in 1962 to begin development of the town of Whispering Pines.
Additionally, Mr. Valentine was active in area associations and charity organizations, including the Southern Pines Shooting Club and Elks Lodge No. 1692 at both local and national levels.
He is rejoined in death with his beloved wife, Joan (Jodi) Hammond Valentine, who died in 1990. He is survived by a son, John C. (Jay) Valentine; and daughter, Jennifer L. Valentine.
