John Miller Hopkins

John Miller Hopkins, 81, of Whispering Pines, died Thursday, Feb. 9, 2012, at FirstHealth Hospice House, in Pinehurst.
A memorial service and prayer service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 12, at Boles Funeral Home, in Southern Pines. Military honors will be rendered following the service.
He was born July 10, 1930, in Oyster Bay, N.Y., to the late Harold Casper Hopkins and Florence Moyse Hopkins. He was a veteran of his country and served in the United States Navy. He retired as a general supervisor with the United States Postal Service.
He attended St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, was a member of the American Legion, and a member of Disabled American Veterans. Mr. Hopkins was very involved and worked very hard with the Whispering Pines Garden Club. He was very passionate of this organization and helped in many ways.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Patricia Hopkins; two sons, Mark Hopkins, of Bayshore, N.Y., and Kevin Hopkins, of Huntington Station, N.Y.; and two daughters, Kim Matuzak, of Charlotte, and Karin Hopkins, of Oakdale, N.Y.; step-son, Richard Seifert, of Greensboro; stepdaughter, Frances Tola, of Claremont, Calif.; and eight grandchildren.
