Mescal B. Ferrell
Mescal Bryant Ferrell, 89, of Colfax, died Saturday, Feb. 4, 2012, at Wake Forest Baptist Health Center in Winston-Salem.
A native of Caswell County, Mrs. Ferrell was born Oct. 19th, 1922, a daughter of the late James Cullen and Ruby Mitchell Bryant. As a registered nurse, she was always proud of her nursing background. She married Thornton Richard Ferrell Jr. on Oct. 19, 1945, and the couple moved to Rochester, N.Y. in 1950, where she lived until moving to Seven Lakes in 1983. Mrs. Ferrell’s husband died in 2000. A daughter, Debra Ann Ferrell Poshkus, preceded her in death in 2004. Mrs. Ferrell was a member of First Presbyterian Church in High Point and the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR).
Mrs. Ferrell is survived by her daughter, Miranda Ferrell Wainberg and her husband, Daniel, of Houston, Texas; son, Thornton R. Ferrell III and his wife, Charlene, of Hilton, N.Y.; one sister, Katherine Towler, of Danville, Va.; and three grandchildren, Kimberly Ann Smith and her husband, Matthew, Adrian Ordonez and his wife, Rebecca and Ricky Ferrell and his wife, Erin.
A memorial service to celebrate Mrs. Ferrell’s life was held at 3 p.m. Monday, Feb. 6, in the multi-purpose room of River Landing at Sandy Ridge with the Rev. Kenneth Broman-Faulk officiating. The family greeted friends following the service. A graveside service was held at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7, in Mountain View Cemetery in Danville, Va.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the charity of one’s choice.
