Alton P. McDonald Sr.
MCDONALD
Alton Pierce McDonald Sr., 92, of Aberdeen, died Sunday, Feb. 5, 2012, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.
He was born Aug. 12, 1919, in Moore County to the late Archie Duncan McDonald and Elma McNeill McDonald. He was a veteran of his country and served in the United States Army. He was a longtime member, former deacon and very involved with the Men’s Sunday School Class at Bethesda Presbyterian Church, where his great-grandfather was greatly instrumental in building Old Bethesda Church. He worked for 35 years for Page and Shamburger Oil. He was a farmer, avid gardener and enjoyed fishing, camping and the beach.
He is survived by four sons: Regie McDonald and wife, Carol, of Cary, Alton McDonald Jr. and Lisa, of Aberdeen, Ralph McDonald and wife, Debbie, of Aberdeen,and Tim McDonald and wife, Julie, of Carthage; and a daughter, DeLois Coggin, of Black Mountain. He is also survived by six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Moss McDonald, in 2002, and three brothers: Willie McDonald, Ray McDonald and Woodrow McDonald.
A graveside service, with military honors, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8, at Bethesda Cemetery in Aberdeen, with the Rev. Jonathan Wallace officiating.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, Feb. 7, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Boles Funeral Home in Southern Pines.
