John B. White III
John B. (Jack) White III passed away Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012, in Southern Pines.
A memorial service will be held at a later time.
Jack was born Sept. 16, 1922, the only child of John B. White II and Helen M. White, of Oakmont, Pa. He attended Penn State University and graduated with a degree in electrical engineering. He served in the Army Corps of Engineers during World War II, including duty in France.
Beginning in 1947, Jack began working for Bell Telephone of Pennsylvania and remained with them until his retirement in 1984, followed by a move to North Carolina. He enjoyed his years in Whispering Pines and later at Belle Meade in Southern Pines.
Jack is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Louise B. White, also of Southern Pines. They recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary and shared a happy and full life.
Also surviving are their four children, David J. White, of Lewisville, Dennis A. White, of Oakland, Calif., Douglas W. White, of Albion, Mich., and Diane W. O’Dwyer, of Chester Springs, Pa.; and three grandchildren, Chris White, of Raleigh, John White, of Oakland, Calif., and Kate O’Dwyer, of West Chester, Pa.
Jack was an avid golfer, a loyal supporter of his alma mater, Penn State, and an involved member of his community and the Presbyterian Church. Known affectionately by his children as The Old Fellow, he was a cherished friend of many through a long and full life.
