Dennis H. Key, 43, of Carthage, died Sunday, Oct. 23, 2011, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, in Pinehurst.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, with Pastor Gregg Newton and Pastor Paul McClure officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28, at Boles Funeral Home, in Southern Pines.
He was born Jan. 20, 1968, in Moore County. For more than 19 years, Dennis loved baseball and coached his sons and many other children throughout his coaching career. He loved to spend time riding his motorcycle with his wife and friends. Dennis loved the beach and traveling with his family. He was an avid Dale Earnhardt Sr. fan and enjoyed collecting Dale Earnhardt memorabilia. Often Dennis could be found playing Xbox with his sons. His family was his passion, and he loved being with them. He leaves behind his beloved pet, Misty, who was his prized possession.
He is survived by his wife of 11 years, Deborah Sebastian Key; his parents, Robert and Linda Key, of Carthage; six sons.Joshua Dennis Key and wife, Molly, of Aberdeen, Matthew Ryan Key, of Carthage, Daniel Wade Bowman Jr., of Carthage, David Jacob Bowman, of Carthage, Charles Martin Presley and wife, Sarah, of Aberdeen, and Richard Yorke Sweat, of Charlotte; his sister, Lisa Key McBride and husband, Kenny, of Lakeview; his maternal grandmother, Ruby M. Blake, of Vass; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Don and Dorothy Sebastian, of Whispering Pines; two grandchildren, Madison and Caleb Presley, and a grandchild who will be born in May 2012; a brother-in-law, Donny Sebastian, of Cameron, and a sister-in-law, Diane Kelly and husband, Kasey, of Southern Pines; as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends who will cherish his memory.
