Bernice Richardson Gerry, 97, passed away Sunday, Oct. 9, 2011, at The Laurels of Chatham, in Pittsboro.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12, at Boles Funeral Home, in Southern Pines, with interment to follow at Jackson Springs Cemetery, in Jackson Springs.
Bernice was born March 17, 1914, in Jackson Springs, to the late Betty C. Brown and Volney L. Richardson. She was a graduate of West End High School. She was a former resident of Ahoskie and was a beautician and homemaker. She was also a longtime resident of Raleigh and was a private duty nurse in Raleigh and Wake County.
She is survived by her son, Chris Gerry and wife, Adelaide, of Sanford; granddaughter, Susan Heaton and husband, Hugh Heaton, of Fort Worth, Texas; and great-granddaughter Katie Heaton. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert S. Gerry; brothers Harlan H. Richardson, Earl J. Richardson and Alex Richardson; sisters Bonnie R. Vloeberghs, Beatrice R. Sox, Ena R. Sloan, Olive R. Tomlinson and Vivian Richardson, an infant sister in 1908.
