BURNETT

George R. Burnett passed away Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2011, in Fort Collins, Colo.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 10, at Lemay Avenue Health and Rehabilitation Center, 4824 S. Lemay, Fort Collins, with the Rev. Richard Phillips, dean emeritus of Hendrick Chapel at Syracuse University, officiating.
He was born June 1, 1920, in Victory, N.Y., to Rev. Arthur and Ruth Burnett. He attended Syracuse schools, Cazenovia College and Syracuse University, and graduated from Syracuse Medical School in 1945. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the Army and served as a captain in the Philippines from July 1946 to June 1947.
He interned at Brooklyn Methodist Hospital, and his residency was in Manchester, N.H. He continued studies in cardiology at University Hospital in Syracuse from 1950 to 1952. He then practiced medicine in Syracuse until he retired in 1991. He was board certified in internal medicine, and was a member of the Syracuse Academy of Medicine, Onondaga County Medical Society, American College of Physicians, American Heart Association and Academy of Internal Medicine.
After retirement, he moved to Pinehurst, where he resided until 2006, when he moved to Fort Collins. Throughout his life, he took special joy in his Labrador retrievers, flying airplanes, woodworking in his shop, and boating and fishing, particularly on the St. Lawrence River in upstate New York.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret; son George and wife, Amy; son Robert and wife, Sarah; and grandchildren, Robert, David, Margaret and Thomas. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Leslie.
The family would like to express its deep appreciation and thanks to all of the wonderful staff at Lemay Avenue Health and Rehabilitation Center. Their exceptional support and care provided comfort to all over the past few years.
