Joseph “Sam” Strickland Womble, 68, of Vass, died Saturday, Oct. 1, 2011, in Greensboro.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 4, at Open Arms Church, with the Rev. Pastor John Brown officiating. Burial followed at New Home Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation was held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 3, at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.
He was born in Moore County to the late Clarence Womble and Mildred Cameron Womble.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Ring Womble, of the home; daughter, Jody Womble Williams and husband, Chris, of Carthage; stepsons, Marty Willard and wife, Kay, of Belews Creek, Mitch Willard and wife, Karen, of Walkertown, and David Williard and wife, Shelley, of Stokesdale; stepdaughter, Joy Smith and husband, Charles, of Southern Pines; sisters, Diane Hardy, of Cameron, Peggy Ramey and husband, Roy, of Vass, and Lynn Rector and husband, Thad, of West End; grandchild, Hannah Williams; 12 step-grandchildren; and 16 step-great-grandchildren.
