Gaylord E. Powell

Gaylord E. Powell, 83, of Pinehurst, died Thursday, Sept. 29, 2011, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, in Pinehurst.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 2, at The Vill-age Chapel in Pinehurst.
Gaylord was born June 29, 1938, in Johnstown, N.Y., to the late Alida Martha Little and Gaylord Clifton Powell. He graduated from St. Lawrence University and received his MBA from Syracuse University. He retired to Pinehurst in 1986, after a 28-year career with the Xerox Corporation. He was a mason in Brockport, N.Y., past treasurer and past board secretary of The Village Chapel, and president of The Village Chapel Foundation in Pinehurst.
He is survived by his wife, Cathleen; son, Stephen C. Powell, of Willoughby, Ohio; daughters, Deniese A. Powell, of Rural Retreat, Va., and Cynthia P. Joyner, of Waterbury, Conn.
