Margaret Ann Garrett Byrd

Margaret Ann Garrett Byrd, 87, of Southern Pines, died Thursday, Nov. 24, 2011, at St. Joseph of the Pines Health Center.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 27, at the Belle Meade chapel in Southern Pines. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 28, in Whiteville Memorial Cemetery.
She was born April 22, 1924, the daughter of the late Karl and Jessie Garrett. She graduated from Greensboro High School and attended Mary Baldwin College. Mrs. Byrd was a housewife and enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking and needlework. She was a devoted mother and grandmother.
She was predeceased by her husband, Locke Byrd Jr. She is survived by two daughters, Ann B. Absher and her husband, Scott, of Pinehurst, and Elizabeth B. Bailey and her husband, Jerry, of Burlington; and two granddaughters, Ashley Byrd Absher and Margaret Ann “Maggie” Bailey.
