Edna M. McDuffie

Edna Matthews McDuffie, 93, of Carthage, died Saturday, Nov. 12, 2011, at FirstHealth Hospice House, in Pinehurst.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15, at Summer Hill Baptist Church, with the Rev. Robert Sims officiating. Burial followed at Pocket Presbyterian Church Cemetery, in Sanford. The family received friends at the church one hour before the service.
A native of Lee County, she was a daughter of the late E.Q. and Beulah Allen McDuffie. Edna attended East Carolina University. She and her husband, the late George McDuffie, farmed together for many years. Later she worked as a nurse’s aid and as a sales clerk for Quality Mills.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Glen and Gaither Matthews.
She is survived by a son, Harman McDuffie and wife, Tammy, of Franklinville; sister Gaynelle Cox, of Tramway; brothers Gray Matthews, of Tramway, and Gilbert Matthews, of Lemon Springs; and grandchildren Abigail Pope and Terri Sizemore.
