Grace Anne Mastrolia

Grace Anne Mastrolia, 73, passed away peacefully in the presence of her family Thursday, Nov. 3, 2011.
Born November 11, 1937, in Carrollton, Ky., to the late Myrtle Rush and Adrian Danner, Grace received her bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the University of Louisville. After raising a family, she worked for Celanese Chemicals for many years, where she met her beloved husband, Bill.
Grace and Bill married in 1984, and remained in Louisville, where they had many friends and family. In 1991, they retired to Florida, but then relocated to the Pinehurst area six years ago to be near family.
Known for her inimitable style and sharp mind, Grace quickly ingratiated herself with the Belle Meade community where she was much loved and much feared as a bridge player. Her ability to solve the Sunday New York Times crossword puzzle is legend.
A beloved wife and mother, Grace is survived by her husband of 28 years, Bill; sons, Lee Schaber, of Dublin, Ohio, and Dr. John Schaber, of Pinehurst; stepsons, Paul Mastrolia and Mark Mastrolia, both of Louisville, Ky., and Peter Mastrolia, of Crestwood, Ky.; stepdaughters, Anita Neal and Kathyrn Taylor, of Louisville, Ky., and Tressa Klossner, of Carlsbad, Calif.; brother, David; sisters, Lavern and Nancy; and grandchildren, Maggie, Clay, William, James, Evan, Tressa, Maureen, Emily and Erin.
A memorial service will be held for Grace at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, 2011, at the Belle Meade Chapel in Southern Pines. Family will receive friends following the service.
In recognition of the wonderful care provided by their staff, memorial contributions may be made to FirstHealth Hospice, 150 Applecross Road, Pinehurst, NC 28374.
