Margaret Blake Payne, 83, of Greensboro, passed away Thursday, March 24, 2011.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 26, at Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home N. Elm Chapel. Burial will follow at Westminster Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Payne was a member of Mount Pisgah United Methodist Church and the Christian Women’s Club. She was retired from Burlington Industries. She was also a volunteer for the Woman’s Hospital. She enjoyed needlework, spending time with people and keeping up with current events.
She was preceded in death by her sisters Odessa Williams, Jewel Johnson and Lillian Gallimore; and brothers Kimes Blake and Elwood Blake.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Alvin Ray Payne; daughter, Marilyn Payne, of Greensboro; son, Douglas R. Payne and wife, Barbara, of Lilburn, Ga.; sister Betty McNeill and husband, Sam, of Candor; brothers Sen. Harris Blake, of Pinehurst, and Waylon Blake and wife, Pina, of Columbia, S.C., grandchildren, Brandi, Amanda and Lydia; and great-grandchildren, Tristen, Payton and Lyla.
