Larry Sherman Williams, who was born Dec. 31, 1944, to Sherman Benjamin and Annie Ruth Maness Williams, died Thursday, March 17, 2011.
A memorial service was held Monday, March 21, at Trinity Baptist Church.
Larry grew up in Robbins and graduated from Elise High School. He graduated from NCSU in 1967, in industrial education, and moved to Newport News, Va., where he was employed by the Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company for 10 years. While at NCSU, he met his wife, Karen Hyland, who was at Meredith, and they married in 1969. They returned to Raleigh in 1977.
Larry’s work as a design engineer included Athey Products, Aeroglide and Five Star Manufacturing, as well as some consulting. After he retired, he assisted his sisters in the care of their parents.
He was an active member of Trinity Baptist Church and served faithfully until illness prevented it.
Larry was foremost a quiet, caring person who used the talents God gave him to help others. He received great joy and satisfaction from giving and was always ready to do what he could for a neighbor or friend. He was a man of his word and enjoyed simple times of being with family and friends.
Survivors include his father, Sherman; wife, Karen; daughter and family, Allison, Jeff and Morgan Havener; daughter and husband, Courtney and Daniel Powers; sisters, Carolyn Murphy and Donna Vaughn; and brother, Ronald.
