Christine Southerland Yow, 92, of Rockingham, died Saturday, March 19, 2011, at her son’s home.
Mrs. Yow was born January 31, 1919, in Sampson County, a daughter of the late Herbert and Florence Hooker Southerland. She grew up in the Methodist Orphanage in Raleigh. She worked as a secretary at L.J. Bell School in Rockingham.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 22, 2011, at First United Methodist Church in Rockingham, with the Rev. Michael Sykes and the Rev. Allison Farrah officiating. Interment will follow at Eastside Cemetery.
She is survived by her sons, Tommy Yow and wife, Julia, of Daphne, Ala., Charlie Yow and wife, Renate, of Whispering Pines, and Chris Yow and wife, Marcie, of Pittsburg, Pa,; four grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Monday at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham from 7 to 9 p.m.
