Richard E. “Dick” Thomas, 90, of Whispering Pines, passed away Monday, July 25, 2011.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5, at Community Congrega-tional Church, in Southern Pines, with Pastor Walter Patten officiating.
Mr. Thomas was retired from the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in Akron, Ohio. He served his country in the U.S. Navy. He also was the past P.E.R. of the Elks and a lifelong member of the Masonic Lodge.
He leaves his beloved wife, Betty Thomas, from whom he lovingly inherited four children, Richard Achberger II and wife, Jeanne, Thomas Achberger and wife, Debra, Beth Palmeri and husband, Jack, and Todd Achberger and wife, Rhonda. He is also survived by nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
