Willard R. Dunlop Sr.

Willard R. “Bill” Dunlop Sr., 84, died Tuesday, July 26, 2011, in Pinehurst.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, July 30, at Union Presbyterian Church, in Carthage, with the Rev. William A. Stewart Jr. and the Rev. Lee McKinney officiating. Burial, with military honors, will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 29, at Fry and Prickett Funeral Home, in Carthage.
Born in Sanford, Bill was the son of the late Willard Lincoln Dunlop and Aileen Terry Dunlop, of Pinehurst. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Army National Guard with a total of 31 years of service. After his service in the military, he worked as a rural mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in West End.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Emaline Lewis Dunlop. He is survived by his sister, Elizabeth Dunlop Ensign and husband, Chester, of Pinehurst; sons, Willard R. “Bill” Dunlop Jr. and wife, Rebecca, of Seven Lakes, and Richard L. Dunlop and wife, Beverly, of Carthage; daughters, Lynn Paige Freeze, of Archdale, and Susan Dunlop Hurley and husband, Stephen, of Smyrna, Ga.; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
