Timothy D. Monroe

MONROE

Timothy Dean Monroe, 57, of North Augusta, S.C., passed away suddenly Wednesday, July 13, 2011, in Gatlinburg, Tenn., while on vacation.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 20, in the Rowland Funeral Home chapel, in North Augusta. Interment will follow at Pineview Memorial Park. The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday July 19, at the funeral home.
Timothy was born Aug. 22, 1953, in Fayetteville. He spent most of his early life in Morganton. He and his wife had been residents of North Augusta, S.C. for 18 years. Tim, as he was affectionately known, was an alumnus of Appalachian State University, located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in geology.
After his time at Appalachian State, Tim continued to carry a love of the mountains with him throughout his life. It was only fitting that he should pass away in the natural beauty of the mountains he was so fond of. He was an avid golfer and member of the Aiken Golf Club. He also had a great love of baseball. After playing many years himself, he coached his two sons all through their years of baseball, even taking his son Chase’s team on to winning two consecutive year tournaments. Tim was employed with Wise Construction Company at the Savannah River site.
Tim was a thoughtful, hardworking, generous man. Most of all, he was a loving father and husband. He will be sorely missed.
He is survived by his wife, Deborah Bailey Monroe; his children, Amber Paige Monroe, of Rochester, N.Y., and Timothy Chase Monroe, of North Augusta; two stepchildren, Jay Odom and wife, Tiffany, of Bluffton, S.C., and their two children, Grayson and Hudson, and Marie Hermansson and husband, Rickard, of Raleigh; his mother, Nora Monroe; and brothers Charles Jr. and Philip Monroe. He was predeceased by his father, Charles Monroe.
Memorials may be made to the National Down Syndrome Society, www.ndss.org. Online condolences may be made at www.rowlandfuneralhome.com.
