MCKENZIE
Murphy Lewis McKenzie Sr., 68, of Aberdeen, passed away peacefully Tuesday, July 5, 2011, at his home.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 9, at Deep Creek Baptist Church, with the Rev. Bryan Maness officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. McKenzie was born in Wagram. He was the husband of Lillian McKenzie and the son of the late Murphy and Dorothy McKenzie. He worked as a truck driver for many years and was a member of Deep Creek Baptist Church, where he served as a trustee. Mr. McKenzie served his country in the U.S. Air Force and was a Vietnam War veteran. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and he will be greatly missed.
Mr. McKenzie is survived by two daughters, Tammy Haywood and husband, Randy, of Laurinburg, and Gail McKenzie, of Hoffman; one son, Murphy L. McKenzie Jr., of Aberdeen; Jennifer McKenzie, of Aberdeen; two sisters, Betty Lamb, of Lumberton, and Catherine Meeks, of South Carolina; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A visitation was held from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday, July 8, at Cox Memorial Funeral Home, and other times at the home.
