John A. Lawkins

John A. Lawkins, 89, of Seven Lakes, passed away Monday, June 20, 2011, at University Health Systems, Inpatient Hospice, in Greenville.
A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 21, at Our Lady of the Americas Roman Catholic Church, in Candor, with the Rev. Ricardo Sanchez officiating. Burial will be at a later date, in Jamesville.
Mr. Lawkins was born June 17, 1922, in Bayside, N.Y. He attended Bayside High School and the University of Iowa, and later Queens College, in New York, where he graduated cum laude.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1942, serving as a navigation instructor. Recalled to military service in 1950, he served in Greenland as an agent with a criminal investigation detachment.
After service, he worked for Equifax Corp. for 26 years and then for Chrysler Military Sales in Woodbury, N.Y., until retirement in 1983. Mr. Lawkins and his wife, Pauline, who passed away April 3, 2011, moved to North Carolina in 1992, where he enjoyed golf and classic car model building.
