Emma Helen Quam
Mrs. Emma Helen Quam, 76, of Vass, passed away on Friday, July 1, 2011, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital.
A memorial service will be held at Cox Memorial Funeral Home chapel on Sunday, July 3, 2011, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Richard Rodda officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Mrs. Quam was born in Bronx, New York, in 1934. Most of Mrs. Quam’s life was spent in New York. As a mother, Mrs. Quam obtained an associate’s degree and worked several years for the NYNEX telephone company. She and Mr. Quam retired to Vass 17 years ago.
Mrs. Quam was very social, loved to entertain and to travel and had many interests. She belonged to many groups and organizations throughout her retirement and, most recently, enjoyed playing ridge and mah jongg on a regular basis.
She loved to laugh and to make others laugh also with her fun stories about her grandchildren and grand dogs. Family and friends were always such a big part of her life and gave her much pleasure.
Mr. Quam was the beloved wife of Earl Quam of 56 years and the daughter of the late Joseph Demery and Ida Maggio. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
Mrs. Quam is survived by her husband, Earl Quam; one daughter, Lauren Berry and husband, Mark, of Connecticut; one son, Peter E. Quam and wife, Vincenzina, of Arizona; five grandchildren Alyssa, Sean, Stefan, Sabrina and Blake; one brother, Richard Cerny, of New York.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
