Alvin Edward Schultz
Alvin Edward Schultz, 85, of Pinehurst, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, June 29, 2011, at his home.
A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
He was born Oct. 17, 1925, in Detroit, to the late Otto and Viola Schultz. Mr. Schultz was a veteran of his country and served at the end of World War II with the U.S. Army, Department of Intelligence, and was stationed in Germany. He retired from NASA in 1986, where he had worked as a mechanical engineer.
He was a member of The Village Chapel in Pinehurst. While a member at The Village Chapel, Mr. Schultz was very involved with pastoral care at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, was a lay eucharistic minister for homebound church members, and later was very involved in the church prayer ministry.
While growing up, Mr. Schultz had a strong passion for the railroad and trains. He enjoyed collecting and building model trains.
He is survived by his wife, Norma Schultz, of Pinehurst, whom he married in 1975; three daughters, Cindy Bell and husband, Jack, of Dahlgren, Va., Karen Soto, of Springfield, Va., and Linda Eyre and husband, Jeff, of Pennington, N.J.; two granddaughters, Jillian Soto and Allyson Avila; and a niece, Jeri Schick and husband, Rob, of Maumee, Ohio.
