Lois Marie Fluke Moffitt
Lois Marie Fluke Moffitt, 89, of Aberdeen, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2011, at Quail Haven in Pinehurst.
She was born on October 1, 1921, in Roanoke, Va., to the late George A. Fluke and Blanche Lucille Hogan Fluke. She was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother, and all who knew her knew that she had a love for everyone and she was a socialite. She was a former member of Page Memorial United Methodist Church in Aberdeen.
Mrs. Moffitt had a unique hobby, the hobby of collecting thousands of golf balls that she would gather while walking behind her home. She also enjoyed collecting recipes and cookbooks. Mrs. Moffitt was a self-taught musician and learned to play the organ that her husband got for her on her anniversary. She had a love for travel and was most proud of her independent living and being able to drive herself until 2006.
She is survived by her two daughters, Phyllis A. Moffitt, of New York, and Dee M. Biddle, of California; three sons, Stephen T. Moffitt and wife, Marcia, of Arizona, Frank L. Moffitt, of Florida, and Paul Davis Moffitt and wife, Grace, of California. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death in 1994 by her husband of 53 years, Howard T. Moffitt; and a son, Howard Wayne Moffitt. A brother, and two sisters also preceded her in death.
A funeral service will be held today (Sunday, Feb. 27, 2011), at 3 p.m. at Boles Funeral Home Chapel in Southern Pines with the Rev. Archie P. Stevens officiating.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Bethesda Cemetery in Aberdeen.
