Wallace Edward Cornwell
Wallace Edward Cornwell passed away peacefully on Thursday, Jan. 20, 2011, at The Inn at Quail Haven in Pinehurst.
A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 21, in the activity room at the Inn at Quail Haven, with Chaplain Ann Long officiating.
He was born in Rockville Centre on Long Island, N.Y., to the late Ralph T. and Lillian Cornwell. Wallace joined the U. S. Navy in 1942 and was discharged in 1951 after serving in World War II and the Korean conflict.
Mr. Cornwell retired in 1979 from the town of Hempstead as the deputy receiver of taxes after 32 years of service. He was active in the Rockville Centre Republican organization as committeeman, treasurer and president and was awarded the Dedicated Service and Lifetime Commitment Award. In addition ,he was a member of the Lynbrook–Massapequa Freemason Lodge 822 in Long Island.
In 1983 Wallace and his wife, Beulah, built a home in Whispering Pines, and retired to play golf, travel and enjoy their lives together.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Barbara Lynn Cornwell.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Beulah Heppler Cornwell; daughter Christine Cornwell Anchin and husband, Jack; four grandchildren; and one great- grandchild.
